AST1+ / AST2 Avalanche Courses Northern Norway 

AST (Avalanche Skills Training) avalanche courses are designed by >>Avalanche Canada. The course contents are continuously updated and developed, to guarantee the best training possible. The courses are developed in Canada, but are adapted to Norwegian conditions.

The Avalanche Skills Training Level 1+ course (AST 1+) is an entry-level avalanche course for recreational skiers and snowboarders in winter backcountry avalanche terrain. This comprehensive 2.5 day program combines practical field days with indoor theory and review based on curriculum as established by Avalanche Canada. It includes an additional field day compared to a regular AST1. Topics covered include avalanche formation and release, identifying avalanche terrain, trip planning, use of tools and resources like the avalanche forecasts to mitigate your avalanche risk, and companion rescue.
Max. number of participants: 5 (to guarantee a good instructor : student ratio)

The Avalanche Skills Training Level 2 (AST2) course is designed for the serious and experienced winter backcountry user. The 4-day course is based on the AST 1+ level course, but is also suited for those who already have a solid understanding of snow avalanche principles. The course has extensive practical field time in real avalanche terrain. Topics covered includes Avalanche Danger Ratings verification techniques for personal use on a local scale, developing personal, local terrain ratings, route-finding to manage personal risk, and travel techniques in avalanche terrain appropriate to the avalanche conditions. In addition, there is a lot of good skiing happening, and a strong focus is on route finding and managing avalanche terrain.

AST1+: NOK 3000 per person. 
AST2: NOK 4700 pp.

Prices include course instructor and course material (book, Avaluator). Accommodation and lift ticket must be purchased additionally.

ACMG Ski Guide 
CAA Level 3 


I am a Ski Guide certified by the Association of Canadian Mountan Guides (ACMG), based in Narvik/Norway and Tbilisi/Georgia, with several years experience of guiding in Northern Norway and the Caucasus.
I am also certified as Canadian Avalanche Association Level 3 avalanche technician. In addition, I have a background as sponsored ski mountaineer, with several first ski steep ski descents in the Caucasus, Pamirs and Tien Shan.

My mother tongue is German, and I happily guide in German, English or Norwegian. 

I also work as photographer:
